Field Trip and Outreach Program Assistant
The Pensacola MESS Hall seeks a Program Assistant (Part-Time). This employee is a critical member of a small team and is primarily responsible for assisting with field trips and outreach programs. Assists visitors and students with activities in a friendly and positive manner. Provides knowledgeable answers to inquiries about the exhibits, activities, and programs. Provides general upkeep and maintenance.

Physical demands: This job requires a large range of physical abilities, including lifting things of up to 25 lbs., standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, manual dexterity, crouching, and full vision, hearing, and speech. The environment is loud, with large fans and visitor noise.
This is a non-exempt, full time, 30-40 hours/week position. In the event this employee works more than 40 hours in a given workweek, the employee will be compensated at the overtime rate required by law.
Responsibilities
Responsible for supporting a range of activities.
Set an enthusiastic tone to optimize a positive visit to the MESS Hall.
Qualifications & Skills
- Some college work. Interest in science, math, or engineering or education.
- Must be available most weekday mornings.
- Occasional availability in afternoons, evenings, school vacations, and weekends a plus.
- Enthusiasm for the delivery of hands-on programs in science, engineering, math and technology is essential.
- Must show a considerable degree of creativity and initiative, and have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- As a representative of the MESS Hall, must be able to communicate effectively with students, visitors and community organizations.
- Dependable and flexible with work schedule and duties.
- Must pass Level II background check and have an acceptable driving record.
Outreach Educator
The Pensacola MESS Hall seeks innovative and organized candidates for the position of Outreach Educator. The educator will report directly to the MESS Hall Education Director, Sarabeth Gordon, and is responsible for facilitating and leading dynamic, curiosity-based learning experiences and events with participants of all ages at venues across the community. This hands-on position calls for an eagerness to work with the public, enthusiasm for science, and excellent organizational and customer service skills. Major field of study in education, science, or related field and experience in informal education preferred; enthusiasm for working with the public required.

- Actively manage the people, materials, and space to facilitate transformative learning experiences for program participants that spark engagement and respond to the interests of participants
- Direct volunteers to enhance their engagement with participants
- Reflect on program content and ensure alignment with learning goals
- Maintain a schedule that meets the greatest needs of programming. This will require weekend, evening, and holiday work
- Other duties as assigned

- Strong organizational skills allowing the candidate to organize and coordinate multiple events simultaneously
- Strong communication skills allowing the candidate to spark participant interest in exploration
- Desire to receive and give feedback, and ability to utilize feedback to continually increase effectiveness
- Highly motivated, requiring minimal supervision to accomplish ambitious goals
- Acceptable driving record and ability to pass a Level II background check
